New York, NY – Sept. 23, 2013 – The National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children’s Foundation (NLEAFCF) raised nearly $500,000 at its its inaugural Hero Awards Gala on Monday, September 23, 2013 at the Edison Ballroom in New York City, with cocktails at 6PM followed by dinner and an awards ceremony with over 300 guests in attendance.  The NLEAFCF presented the “Corporate Hero” Award to John Chambers, Cisco Chairman and CEO and the “Public Service Hero” Award to the Honorable Rudolph Giuliani.  Award-winning journalist, best-selling author and television personality Joan Lunden was the Emcee.  Celebrated stage and screen actress Holland Taylor served as Special Auctioneer at the event. The awards are designed to honor distinguished individuals and corporations whose work and passion support the efforts of our nation’s first responders.  Proceeds from the event help to underwrite NLEAFCF’s ongoing scholarship and grant programs.

Created in the aftermath of “9/11” by Alfred Kahn, Chairman & CEO of CraneKahn LLC, the NLEAFCF serves the needs of children and families nationwide affected by a line of duty death or permanent disability. “I created this Foundation with the mission of helping the heroes of tomorrow – the children of our brave firefighters and law enforcement officers injured or lost in the line of duty, said Kahn. “We are committed to providing long-term assistance to these children of our fallen heroes,” added Kahn.

The Co-Chairs included Nick Adamo, SVP of The Americas, Cisco; and Alfred R. Kahn & Jillian Crane.  Vice Chairs are Eric Hatzimemos, Managing Partner, Giuliani Partners; Laurence A. Levy, Counsel, Bracewell & Giuliani, LLP; Jacqueline & James Rosinsky; and Charles V. Salice.  Also attending was US Congresswoman, Carolyn Maloney.

John Chambers is Chairman and CEO of Cisco.  Cisco has worked closely with government, first-responders and non-profits to respond to disaster incidents by donating time, services and equipment to improve communications and collaboration in times of emergency. In particular, Cisco’s Tactical Operations Team is trained to support emergency response situations and deploys regularly to sites across the country.  Cisco is being honored for its exemplary work after Hurricane Katrina, the attacks on 9-11 and, most recently, after Hurricane Sandy to ensure a more coordinated response and to help communities get back on their feet.

Chambers has received numerous awards for his leadership over his past 18 years at the helm of Cisco, for his and Cisco's philanthropic activities.  Chambers received the U.S. State Department's top corporate social responsibility award (ACE) twice, from both Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2010 and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in 2005. He also received the first-ever Clinton Global Citizen Award from former U.S. President Bill Clinton, and has been awarded the Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship, and the prestigious Excellence in Corporate Philanthropy Award, an award given by CEOs to their CEO peers.

The Honorable Rudolph Giuliani was mayor of New York City from 1994-2002 Under his leadership, New York City became the best-known example of the resurgence of urban America. From his success at cleaning up Times Square and other public spaces around the City to closing the Fresh Kills landfill on Staten Island, Mayor Giuliani worked tirelessly to pass New York to the next generation better and more beautiful than it was before he entered office.  He served as mayor during the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001 and drew praise for his extraordinary leadership during an unprecedented crisis.  Arriving on the scene within minutes of the second plane crash, he coordinated rescue operations that saved as many as 20,000 lives and emerged as the national voice of reassurance and consolation – America’s Mayor.

Joan Lunden truly exemplifies today’s modern working woman. An award-winning journalist, bestselling author, motivational speaker, successful entrepreneur, and one of America’s most recognized and trusted television personalities, this mom of seven continues to do it all. As host of “Good Morning America” for nearly two decades, Lunden brought insight to top issues for millions of Americans each day. The longest running host ever on early morning television, Lunden reported from 26 countries, covered 4 presidents and 5 Olympics and kept Americans up to date on how to care for their homes, their families and themselves.

Actress Holland Taylor was most recently nominated for a Tony Award for her performance as Governor Ann Richards in “Ann,” which she also wrote. Holland won the Supporting Actress in Drama Emmy for “The Practice,” and was nominated for comedy Emmys for her Hedda-Hopper-esque columnist on AMC’s “The Lot” and Charlie Sheen’s hellish mother in “Two and a Half Men.”

Proceeds from the Hero Awards Gala will fund NLEAFCF’s ongoing scholarship and grants programs, affording much needed financial support to the children of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.  Underwriters of the event will also be sponsoring tables for our first responders so that our uniformed heroes, in addition to our honorees, will be acknowledged for their ongoing service and sacrifice.

The Heinemann's at sea...

A Day in the Life of Michelle Marie Heinemann

http://blacktiemagazine.com/michelle.marie.heinemann/Michelle_Marie_Heinemann_September20_2013.htm

Sunday evening my family and I attended a beautiful party in Greenwich, Connecticut. I have always loved Greenwich as so many of my friends live there. As we turned down, Clapboard Ridge Road, I saw my best friend on the tennis court warming up for our game. ( The week before everyone came to my house.)

The great thing about my friend is that we play tennis exactly on the same level, so we never really know who is going to win, and we always start with a mint julep....
my favorite!

A mint julep is traditionally made with just four ingredients: Bourbon, Sugar, Water & Mint leaf...usually spearmint is the choice. A mint julep must be served in a silver cup, and last year I had the good fortune of finding 50 at a local auction...I thought I was in heaven when I saw them in a little corner of the auction house. They were/are magnificent and I have put them to good use! Why Silver? This is so frost can form on the outside of the cup, so holding it at the bottom is best, and always use lots and lots of ice. So delicious. ( I must add it is an acquired taste, much like coffee...but once acquired, so divine. )
My son wanted to play with us so we decided to have a Doubles match, my friend and her son against me and my son. We laughed, we cried, and almost died, as keeping up with 6 year olds is no easy task!
After a few hours of play and the most succulent BBQ, we decided to head over to the Riverside Yacht Club. They have kept their sailboat there for ages, and the last time I was there was July 4th weekend. The Regatta was taking place and over 70 sailors participated, making it extraordinary to watch. The three racing divisions were appropriately titled " Red, White and Blue." I had taken my paints that weekend and was able to paint two paintings of the event... I kept one and gave the other to my friend...which she hung in the sailboat!
It was a great family day, we were exhausted
by the end of it, but so satisfiable so!

Until next week...xoxo..Michelle-Marie Heinemann

Now departing the Hudson and Hyacinth Express...Next stop....???

A Day in the Life of Michelle Marie Heinemann
http://blacktiemagazine.com/michelle.marie.heinemann/Michelle_Marie_Heinemann_August21_2013.htm

I purchased a Choo Choo Train for my children over the summer and we call it the "Hudson and Hyacinth Express."
 It was custom made by a company in South Dakota that does the most amazing work.
I have had a long standing love affair with trains ever since
I can remember, and every year delight in The New York Botanical Garden Holiday Train show. The large scale model trains cover a quarter mile of track complete with Landmarks that include Penn Station, Yankee Stadium, Radio City Music Hall, and the Brooklyn Bridge, just to name a few.
I encourage everyone to go, it usually begins around the middle of November to the middle of January.
As my son was driving me around our property in the train
 I couldn't help but notice we had so many different types of mushrooms this year. We counted 52 to be exact. My favorite was an orange cluster with a pumpkin color top and lighter orange hue on the stem. There are over 10,000 described species known from North America, with 50% being inedible, needless to say I only admired ours from afar.
A big thank you to all my darling BFF's who helped me celebrate our family being on the cover of The Resident Magazine. To many to list...but you know who you are,
and I adore you!!!

Until next week...xoxo...Michelle-Marie Heinemann

Michelle Marie Heinemann Hampton Classic

The Hamptons Classic

http://blacktiemagazine.com/michelle.marie.heinemann/Michelle_Marie_Heinemann_september5_2013.htm

A Day in the Life of Michelle-Marie Heinemann....
I had the most divine conversation with Martha Stewart at Via Quadronno this week. As my family and I were at the Espresso Bar waiting for our latte's and Speck del Tirolo panini's, she cozied right up to me and struck up a conversation like we had been friends forever...I adore that quality in people. It's basically called, "just being nice" and that she was! We talked at length about the Upper East Side, being neighbors, and the Hampton Classic.
We both were there the day before and raved about how well it is run. I had the good fortune of meeting Michael Braverman, a long standing board member, and friend of a good friend of mine, and delighted in his stories and support of the Classic.
Both my children competed and did exceptionally well. I was so very proud of them. My sincere gratitude to Taylor Knapp, Hudson & Hyacinth's trainer...and Joann Knapp, the proprietress of Crosswinds Equestrian Center for taking such good care of us. They are amazing!
Shanendoah Sea Green, my children's pony, was as solid as ever, always ready to perform without a moments complaint. He is such a love, and was so handsome in his beautiful braids.

The day was magnificent and after my children competed we all gathered at our table and dined on a perfectly prepared lunch. My table guests included, Christopher Pape...who my children completely love, Leesa Rowland and Larry Wohl..who spent the entire day with us..beginning at daybreak, Maggie Norris and Andrew
Le Pera..who had the most interesting stories about his upbringing in Italy, Auntie Naz and Uncle Tom Lampson..pure sweethearts and Carol, my Mother-In-Law and faithful companion.

We sat comfortably and watched the First Round: which was the Classic Style Round in the Grand Prix Ring. The coarse consisted of a minimum of 10 obstacles set at 3'6" - 3'9" in height, it also included 4 option Fences set at 4' - 4'6" in height which were considered by the judging panels when determining the score. A rider received a score from each panel, with a maximum score of 100 points, then scores were averaged.
The second round was the Handy Hunter Round, overall scoring from both rounds were added then averaged to determine the winner.
It was thrilling to watch...it is in my blood.
Saturday evening my husband and I had a lovely dinner in South Hampton at Sant Ambroeus with our dear friends Richard and Donna Soloway. It was wonderful spending time with them. The lazy days of summer are slowly coming to an end as evidenced by the trees at my country house as they are already starting to drop their leaves. This summer was so beautiful, so many memories were created and shared by family and friends. I will miss it terribly and close with a summer poem the English novelist and poet, Emily Jane Bronte' wrote:
Moonlight, Summer Moonlight
'Tis moonlight, summer moonlight,
All soft and still and fair;
The solemn hour of midnight
Breathes sweet thoughts everywhere,
~~~
But most where trees are sending
Their breezy boughs on high,
Or stooping low are lending
A shelter from the sky.
~~~
And there in those wild bowers
A lovely farm is laid;
Green grass and dew-steeped flowers
Wave gently round her head.
Until next week....xoxo...Michelle-Marie Heinemann

Stewart Lane and Bonnie Comley....Congratulations!!!

Stewart Lane & Bonnie Comley....Congratulations on the SUCCESS of Romeo and Juliet on Broadway

http://blacktiemagazine.com/society_september_2013/Romeo_and_Juliet_Opens_on_Broadway.htm

International film star Orlando Bloom has been heating up the inside of the Richard Rogers Theater and hundreds of his fans have been blocking traffic on the streets on West 46th street outside the stage door for several weeks of previews but the show opened on Thursday, September 19th and the crowd is under control for this very limited run. This version of the classic tale retains Shakespeare's original language but a modern setting in which the rival families (the Montagues and the Capulets) are white and black. It is required reading in most schools and if you don't take your teenage daughters and grand daughters to see this one, they may never forgive you! It features a shirtless Bloom, a panting Rashad, a motorcycle, balloons, flames shooting out over a wall of graffiti and terrific acting. The show runs through January 12th.
Romeo and Juliet stars Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lord of the Rings) and two-time Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad (Stick Fly, The Trip to Bountiful) and ,although, Bloom is happily married to supermodel Miranda Kerr , the on stage chemistry between Bloom and Rashad has been gossip fodder for the internet. This is the first Broadway revival of Romeo and Juliet in 36 years. Considered by many as the greatest love story of all time, this stunningly modern production from five-time Tony nominee David Leveaux includes the acclaimed cast of 25 featuring Tony Award winners Brent Carver (Kiss of the Spider Woman), Chuck Cooper (The Life), two-time Tony nominee Jayne Houdyshell (Follies) and Christian Camargo (All My Sons).
Guests attending the star studded opening included: Miranda Kerr, Sir Ian McKellan, Spike Lee, Liev Schreiber, Al Roker, Mamie Gummer, Tyra Banks, Phylicia Rashad, Terry Allen Kramer and her grand daughter Brianne Goutal, James & Charlene Nederlander, James & Margo Nederlander, Stewart Lane, Bonnie Comley, Sawyer Avery, Deborah Cox, Constantine Maroulis, and Jordon Roth, among others.
